A tracker for the equity the internet told you to ignore

Your equity is not a lottery ticket.

The internet keeps telling you to value your pre-IPO shares at zero. Meanwhile, investors trade shares of roughly 2,000 private companies at observable prices. ExitCue tracks the number everyone else already sees. Free, private, no drama.

Free. No card. About a minute.

The internet's favorite equity advice

“Just value it at zero.”

Lightly paraphrased from real threads. You've read a hundred of these. Maybe you've written one.

r/startupstop comment · seen ~1,000 times
Value your equity at $0. If it ever turns into real money, treat it as a pleasant surprise.
r/cscareerquestionsthe classic
Pre-IPO shares are Monopoly money. Negotiate salary and ignore the equity entirely.
r/personalfinancereplied to a Series F employee
It's a lottery ticket. Worthless until IPO, and the IPO is never coming.
r/financialindependence800 upvotes of despair
I count my private RSUs as zero in my net worth. Anything else is self-delusion.
r/startupsfunny, but no
Private equity comp = a pinky promise with a vesting schedule.
r/cscareerquestionsstrangers pay for them daily
Your options are worth what a stranger will pay for them: nothing.

Meanwhile, on the actual secondary market

Shares of roughly 2,000 private companies change hands at observable prices. Founders, funds, and VCs know the number. Now you can too.

Your equity might genuinely be worth very little; some of it is. But “private” hasn't meant “unknowable” for years. ExitCue tracks the estimated price your company's stock actually trades around, with its date and its caveats attached, so the person with the least information about your equity stops being you. It is not the 409A on your paperwork — that is an annual appraisal answering a tax question, and the two routinely differ in either direction.

Three steps to a clear picture

  1. 01

    Name your company

That's genuinely all we need. If it trades on the secondary market, you'll see its latest estimated share price and years of history in about four seconds.

  2. 02

    Add your equity

Type in your grant, or upload the PDF and let us read it: options, RSUs, or common stock. Out comes your estimated value, vested and unvested, in dollars.

  3. 03

    Get on with your life

Pick the updates you actually want: a price move, a vesting event, a deadline. Nothing else. We're a tracker, not a group chat.

Everything your equity actually needs

Know what it's actually worth

A real estimated price with a source and an as-of date, then your grants translated into dollars. Charts show gaps where the data has gaps; when there's no price, we say so instead of inventing one.

  • Latest estimated share price with years of history
  • Vested and unvested, separated
  • Options show exercise cost and estimated pre-tax spread, not just the flattering number

Never lose money to a date

Vest dates, option expirations, post-termination windows: on your calendar from day one, with one factual alert when something needs you. The 90-day clock is much less exciting when you've known about it all along.

  • Vesting timeline and next-vest countdown, in dollars
  • Alerts on your terms: no nudges, no manufactured urgency
  • A monthly Equity Update that reconciles exactly, plus an annual statement for tax season

Honest numbers, clearly sourced

Private-company prices are estimates, and we treat them that way. Every value in ExitCue carries its source and as-of date. Charts show gaps where no data was observed. When there's no price, we say so instead of inventing one.

Read the full methodology
  • Pricing from live trades and accepted bids: employer liquidity programs, institutional trades, broker trades, and pre-IPO marketplaces.
  • Estimates, not promises. Actual transaction outcomes may differ.
  • No trading, no hype, no pressure. ExitCue is a tracker, not a brokerage.

Questions, answered plainly

Where do the prices come from?
From live trades and accepted bids across employer liquidity programs, institutional trades, broker trades, and pre-IPO marketplaces: real transactions, not a spreadsheet someone made up. Every price shows its as-of date, and the methodology page explains exactly how estimates are built and where they fall short.
Can my employer see any of this?
No. There is no employer-facing view of anything: not your grants, not your comparisons, not your documents, not even whether you use ExitCue. Verifying with a work email sends one code, once; the address is never stored or contacted again.
Is the estimated price what I'd actually get?
No, and anyone who promises otherwise is selling something. It's an estimate from observed secondary-market data. Private shares are illiquid and transfer-restricted; actual prices can differ materially, and some shares can't be sold at all. It's still a far better anchor than zero.
Is ExitCue really free?
Yes. The core product is free with no card required: your company's latest estimated share price, your dashboard, vesting, deadlines, and alerts. The Plus plan ($30/year) adds extras like tracking up to 5 companies and the offer tools.
Is this financial advice?
No. We show you numbers with dates and caveats attached. What you do next is between you, a qualified advisor, and your group chat.
Do you sell my data or take commissions?
No. We don't sell leads, take commissions, or accept payment for placement. The educational page about liquidity options lists providers alphabetically and identically for every user.
How do the company benchmarks stay anonymous?
Cells publish only when at least 25 verified, explicitly consenting participants stand behind them, and every narrower slice meets that bar independently. You see quartiles and ranges, never individual grants, exact counts, or anything traceable to a person. Consent is revocable, and withdrawal suppresses affected cells immediately.
What if my company has no price data?
We say so, plainly. You'll never see an invented number, or a reflexive $0. You can still track vesting and deadlines, and the moment a price exists, you'll see it.

Your equity, finally legible.

About a minute, no card, to your company's latest estimated share price.
